Hi, I’m Alan…

My parents instilled two passions within me, love of travel and love of art.  From the age of 3, my father would take time off for a family trip.  I caught the travel bug. Also, as a child I was surrounded by art, my parents were collectors - famous and no so famous painters, sculptors,  even the occasional photograph - they had a Weegee that I loved.  I had artistic desires, but my hands could not create what my imagination saw.  So I did what I was good at, I went to medical school.  Even during my successful endocrinology practice, I yearned for a creative outlet.  Finally in 2008, when I was taking a 6 month sabbatical I bought a digital camera.  It was love at first snap.  I had found my passion - since then I have combined my love of travel, nature and photography to photograph in all 50 states, 59 National Parks and over 50 countries.  I started out as a documentary type of photographer - shooting the landscape or birds as I saw them.  Now my goal is to move my viewers, elicit emotion, using a more creative flair.    Using principles from my long forgotten history of art classes, with refreshers courtesy of UCLA and The Great Courses, my more recent work is more impressionistic in vision.
